The Community Builder
International organisation for public-private cooperation, which can convene governments, companies and technologists around a shared set of AI questions each January.
It sets the agenda for how governments and large companies talk about AI, through the Annual Meeting, its Global Risks Report and its cooperation indices.
Davos 2026 brought nearly 3,000 leaders from more than 130 countries together with AI dominating the sessions, and the Forum’s 2026 risk report ranks misinformation and disinformation second on its two-year outlook.
Market Status reads the World Economic Forum as The Community Builder. The friction this archetype resolves is that governments, companies and technologists rarely sit in one room, and AI decisions are made in all three.
The Forum was founded by Klaus Schwab and is a Swiss-based international organisation for public-private cooperation. Its Board of Trustees is co-chaired by André Hoffmann and Larry Fink. After Børge Brende stepped down on 26 February 2026, Alois Zwinggi serves as interim president and chief executive while the Board seeks a permanent successor.
The Forum’s stated position is that dialogue is a necessity in an uncertain world. Its 2026 Annual Meeting posed the question of whether AI discussions would move from ambition to governance, with attention to leaders from more than 130 countries.
The Forum is convening on AI while it changes its own leadership: the interim chair left in August 2025, and the president and chief executive stepped down in February 2026. Its statement gave no reason, and ABC News Radio and CGTN linked the departure to disclosures about past contact with Jeffrey Epstein. The Forum’s own 2026 Global Cooperation Barometer found that cooperation is narrower and more transactional.
Against the journey, the Forum is Accelerating, through the conditions it convenes. The Global Risks Report is the nearest thing the Information Era has to a shared register of risks, and the Risk Management and Public Affairs functions cite it when they judge what is material. Market Status reads the Forum’s convening role as consensus for hire: it can bring the parties to one table, and its leadership transition shows the seat is not fixed.
