Status is stated plainly: tested, being tested, or proposed.
Container services began in the late 1950s with no common box size. Operators learned what worked over a decade, and a standard followed in 1968. Practice came first.

Audited statements and public disclosure standards let strangers fund companies they could not inspect. The auditors and underwriters who set up early became the gatekeepers of those markets.

In Birmingham a small circle of industrialists and scientists met regularly to share mechanical, chemical and commercial knowledge. The factory system followed from that cluster. Early participation can look like a standing conversation.
