TheAIT Concept Note
An independent institution for trusted Human-AI collaboration.
This concept note sets out the proposed purpose, institutional structure, first programme and partner model of The Acacia Initiative Trust, including how Ground Zero Adoption and book distribution can bring institutions into the work.
It is intended for prospective Founding Trustees, Foundational Partners, programme partners and institutions considering a role in the development of Human-AI Handshake standards and applications.
The cost of establishing trust is becoming an economic question.
AI can generate information and professional outputs at scale, but the ability to generate an answer does not establish whether it can be relied upon.
Service providers and service seekers still need to establish accuracy, relevance, competence, professional suitability, context and accountability. Where this work is repeated across transactions and relationships, time and resources are spent verifying rather than delivering or using services.
TheTLP calls this recurring economic burden the Trust Tax, and uses the term Verification Loop for the repeated checking that contributes to it. Its scale and effects must be measured through actual workflows. The project does not assume a fixed economic loss.
TheAIT is proposed as an independent public-interest institution that can bring together the participants needed to research, test and develop practical answers.
A common institutional home, not another commercial technology company.
The Acacia name is inspired by the Acacia tree’s role in supporting a wider living ecosystem across the African Savannah. The institutional idea is similar: provide a common home where different participants can contribute to shared work without one participant owning or controlling the whole system.
Public purpose
Governments and institutions can contribute to questions of public trust, accountability and economic development.
Professional input
Universities, professional bodies and practitioners can contribute research, evidence and functional knowledge.
Practical application
Technology companies and commercial partners can develop products and services using shared standards and frameworks.
The World Wide Web Consortium is a useful reference for independent standards work. TheAIT would establish its own scope, participation rules, governance and technical processes, rather than assuming it should replicate another institution.
The Trust Ledger provides the shared intellectual foundation.
The book examines trust across four macro-economic eras and sixteen economies, considering how arrangements for trust have enabled exchange between people, institutions and markets.
It introduces the problem of abundant intelligence and the continuing cost of establishing accountable judgment. The book is intended for specific partner and stakeholder audiences, including investors, governments, technology companies, learning institutions, professional bodies, employees, customers, suppliers and communities.
Its role in the partnership model is to give prospective participants a shared basis for discussion before they decide what contribution they may make.
Every partner has a reason to participate. Ground Zero gives it a place.
Ground Zero is a customized partner statement placed before the ten chapters of The Trust Ledger. It records why the partner believes TheTLP matters and how the project connects with its institutional purpose and global vision.
It is not a conventional Preface or Foreword, and it is not a personal endorsement of the author. It is an institutional statement by the adopting partner, establishing its own point of entry into the project.
The partner’s position
- Why the economics of trust matters to the partner.
- How TheTLP relates to its institutional priorities.
- How Human-AI collaboration connects with its global vision.
- Which stakeholder audience it wants to reach.
Boundaries of adoption
- It is not blanket endorsement of every argument in the book.
- It does not certify the Six Conditions as final standards.
- It does not establish the Judgment Economy as an existing market.
- It does not confer chapter ownership, governance rights or control of TheAIT.
The partner supplies its institutional position and audience priorities. The editorial team develops the statement in consultation with the partner, and the partner approves the final text before publication. TheAIT retains responsibility for the book’s central argument, the ten chapters and the integrity of the programme’s technical work.
Customize the opening for the people the partner needs to reach.
The same book can serve different stakeholder conversations without changing its shared chapters. Ground Zero provides the relevant institutional context at the beginning.
Investment confidence
Why trusted judgment matters to capital allocation, investment confidence and economic growth.
Professional practice
How human-AI collaboration affects roles, responsibility, decision-making and accountability.
Education and readiness
Why people need the ability to work with intelligence while retaining context and human judgment.
Public trust
Why trusted information and accountable professional judgment matter to public institutions.
Reliable services
Why trustworthy services and accountable AI-supported decisions matter to those being served.
Shared participation
How trust practices can support commercial relationships and wider economic participation.
Where a partner has several distinct audiences, the editorial plan can provide one primary Ground Zero and, where justified, additional audience-specific versions. The number and format of editions should be agreed before production.
Ground Zero records the reason. Book distribution carries the conversation.
Ground Zero Adoption and book pre-purchase are separate commitments. The first records the partner’s purpose; the second provides a practical way to support the initiative and put the book into the hands of selected stakeholders.
Partner statement
A customized opening statement, developed with the partner, approved for publication and linked to its institutional purpose and intended audience.
Stakeholder copies
An agreed quantity of books purchased for free distribution to employees, investors, learning institutions, customers, suppliers, communities or other selected groups.
The distribution plan should identify quantities, recipients, delivery responsibilities, timing and any partner-specific edition requirements. Pricing, payment and production terms should be stated clearly.
Clear terms protect the partner and the institution.
A separate Ground Zero Adoption and Book Distribution Framework should govern the arrangement. At minimum, it should cover:
- Adoption scope: the meaning and limits of Ground Zero Adoption.
- Editorial process: partner input, drafting, review, approval and publication.
- Audience definition: the primary audience and any additional editions.
- Recognition: how the partner is identified in the book and related communications.
- Book pre-purchase: quantity, price, payment, production and distribution terms.
- Use of funds: transparent recording and reporting of proceeds and contributions.
- Rights and permissions: ownership, publication, reproduction and use of the partner statement.
- Participation boundaries: confirmation that adoption does not confer governance, ownership or control rights.
TheTLP develops and tests Human-AI Handshake frameworks.
The Trust Ledger Project is the first programme of TheAIT. Its objective is to research, design, test and support the deployment of Human-AI Handshake frameworks for providers and seekers of professional services across industry verticals.
The project studies the relationship between AI-provided intelligence, human context, professional judgment, institutional standards and accountability. Its purpose is to understand how these elements can work together in actual professional functions.
The proposed Container of Trust
- Traceability (Lineage).
- Referenceability (Validation).
- Transferability (Handshake).
- Exchangeability (Liquidity).
- Boundary Lock (Structural integrity).
- Enforcement Protocol (Policing).
The Judgment Economy
The project examines whether accountable judgment may become a distinct source of economic value as intelligence becomes abundant. This remains a hypothesis to be tested through evidence and practical application.
The Six Conditions are working propositions, open to criticism, testing, refinement and falsification. The project does not assume that every instrument or component must meet all six conditions in the same way.
Three layers keep governance, programmes and markets distinct.
Secretariat
The permanent institutional and fiduciary home, led by Founding Trustees. It oversees governance, legal formation, administration, continuity, partnerships and resource mobilization.
Programmes
TheTLP is the first programme, with its own technical Constitutional Document governing programme direction and operations. Additional programmes may follow.
Business Development and Markets
This layer translates programme outputs into products, services and industry applications through commercial and development partners.
TheTLP Constitutional Document is distinct from TheAIT’s Trust Deed and from any separate PBO constitution or registration instruments. Each document serves a different legal or operational purpose.
GreenDeveX is the originating project promoter and current host of TheTLP’s intellectual argument and technical corpus. It may become a commercial subsidiary of TheAIT, subject to legal, tax, governance and intellectual property arrangements.
Research can be shared. Commercial products can remain independent.
The proposed development centre would research professional functions, the people and institutions involved, context requirements, friction points, accountability and trust conditions. It would develop reusable Human-AI Handshake frameworks and standards resources.
Commercial partners would focus on their core strengths, including models, compute, technology, engineering, product development, distribution and market access. This division may reduce duplicated research and shorten development cycles, although actual integration time depends on technical requirements and complexity.
For example, a technology company could support research into a professional function such as Marketing, then integrate relevant frameworks into its own AI products. This is an illustration of the proposed model, not a claim that any named company has agreed to participate.
Mandatory access fees are proposed for commercial users seeking specified standards and associated framework resources. Proceeds would support standards development, research and maintenance. Certification or assurance may be priced separately. Academic, public-interest and non-commercial participation may have different arrangements.
Partners retain independently developed products and proprietary technology. Jointly developed intellectual property must be governed by prior agreement. Access to standards does not give a commercial partner control of TheAIT or ownership of every application built using them.
Different contributions, clearly defined responsibilities.
Founding Trustees
Individuals responsible for establishing and safeguarding TheAIT through governance and fiduciary stewardship under the appropriate legal arrangements.
Foundational Partners
Individuals and institutions contributing funding, expertise, resources, strategic relationships, Ground Zero Adoption or book distribution.
Programme-Specific Partners
Organisations contributing research, technical capabilities, funding, institutional access or market knowledge to a defined programme.
Commercial and Market Partners
Participants developing, distributing, commercializing or applying programme outputs under agreed access and licensing terms.
These roles are not interchangeable. Foundational or programme participation does not automatically make an organisation a Trustee or give it governance rights over TheAIT or other programmes.
The first funding objective is to establish the institution.
The immediate objective is to establish TheAIT legally and operationally in Nairobi, Kenya, with the intention of registering it as a Public Benefit Organization, subject to legal advice on the appropriate structure and process.
Institutional formation
- Legal advice and structure confirmation.
- Trust Deed and required legal instruments.
- Registration and associated costs.
- Founding Board and initial governance procedures.
Initial Secretariat
- Basic administration and institutional records.
- Co-working facility and operating costs.
- Partner engagement and resource mobilization.
- Ground Zero and book distribution administration.
The first phase is not intended to finance a fully staffed development centre. A later funding phase would support dedicated facilities, full-time staff and the research capacity required for programme delivery.
From founding alignment to institutional readiness.
Founding alignment
Confirm Trustees, purpose and initial institutional priorities.
Legal formation
Prepare legal instruments and complete the appropriate registration process.
Secretariat setup
Establish administration, governance procedures and basic facilities.
Partner engagement
Formalize Ground Zero Adoption and book distribution arrangements.
Resource mobilization
Secure financial, technical and institutional support.
Development centre plan
Define staffing, facilities, research priorities and next-stage funding.
Work already available for review and discussion.

What role could your institution play in the first phase?
The next step is a conversation about institutional fit, priorities, possible contributions and the conditions required for participation.
Prospective participants may be interested in serving as Founding Trustees, supporting institutional establishment, adopting a Ground Zero, pre-purchasing books for stakeholder distribution, contributing to TheTLP or developing commercial applications using its standards and frameworks.
The Acacia Initiative Trust is in formation. Its proposed domicile, legal form, registration, governance and operating arrangements remain subject to confirmation by the Founding Trustees and qualified Kenyan legal advisers. This concept note is a basis for discussion, not a Trust Deed, legal registration instrument, formal funding request or binding partnership offer.
